Background Information
| Personal History | T’Lara lived the early life as a Starfleet nomad, moving with her parents from posting to posting in service to Starfleet. Some stability was achieved when her parents accepted positions at Starfleet Headquarters and they moved to San Francisco, Earth. When the Breen attacked Earth in 2375, T’Lara was only 14 years old. She had left the compound to go to school for the day when the surprise attack began. Her parents were already at work at Headquarters – where both were killed. T’Lara was found sitting on debris in front of an administration building by her father’s human friend, Commander Malik Ahmad, who was now teaching at the academy and working on the side as a theoretical engineer at headquarters (with a focus on propulsion). He took her in, only temporarily, of course, so that she had some stability while he attempted to locate any of her family on Vulcan. Malik discovered that T’Lara had no suitable family to return to, so made the solemn decision to adopt her, to honor the long-time friendship he had with her parents. T'Lara took his familial name, as it was only logical, since the professed bachelor had now, in essence, taken on the role of father figure. Commander Ahmad helped the traumatized teenager the best he could – even consulting closely with the Vulcan enclave still in place to ensure she had appropriate treatment to reconcile the loss of her family. He was a gentle, guiding force, and often brought home his work in which he and T’Lara would debate feasibility and appropriateness of whatever technology he was currently troubleshooting. Once she graduated high school, she often accompanied him to his classes and sat in the back and listened as she had not yet reached the Vulcan age of majority to go out on her own. She finally convinced Ahmad to allow her to commute to MIT for undergraduate classes, which then segwayed to a master’s program and finally a doctorate before her adopted father felt she might be mature enough, at this point, to go out on her own. Therefore, it came as somewhat of a surprise that T’Lara sat for the Starfleet entrance exam and was accepted to the academy. (He figured that, surely, she would take on a contracting job at one of the think-tanks planet side or even go to Jupiter station where a prototype warp engine was currently in its beginning stages of development. It was, however, NOT a great surprise that she followed in her foster-father’s footsteps by declaring as an Engineering major. (Can’t waste all that education, now, can we?) |
