Welcome to the USS Cygnus!

The U.S.S. Cygnus is a Nebula-class heavy cruiser, a proud veteran of Starfleet service, for over thirty years. Recently revitalized with a comprehensive refit, this legendary starship now boasts state-of-the-art systems and technology, making her as advanced and formidable today as she was when she first slipped from the shipyards. With cutting-edge upgrades to her shields, propulsion systems, sensor arrays and tactical systems, the Cygnus stands ready to face the unknown once more.
Often regarded as one of Starfleet's most versatile starship designs, the Nebula-class has earned its reputation as a true workhorse of the fleet. The Cygnus is no exception. Thanks to her modular and adaptable mission pod system, she can be quickly reconfigured to meet the needs of any assignment. Whether engaging in deep-space scientific exploration, conducting delicate diplomatic negotiations, performing anti-piracy operations, or offering humanitarian aid and disaster relief, the Cygnus has proven herself time and again. Her resilience and flexibility make her the perfect vessel for any challenge the galaxy presents.
Over the course of her illustrious career, the Cygnus has ventured into the uncharted regions of the galaxy, discovered new worlds, made first contact with numerous alien civilizations, and defended the Federation and her allies against numerous threats. Her storied past is marked by valor and dedication, and she remains a symbol of Starfleet's commitment to peace, exploration, and defense. Each mission the Cygnus has embarked on has brought her closer to fulfilling Starfleet's found vision of exploration, discovery, and peaceful coexistence.
Commanding this venerable starship is Captain Bane Plase, a seasoned officer known for his sharp strategic mind and unwavering dedication to the principles of the Federation. At his side stands Lieutenant Commander Temerant Bast, the Cygnus's First Officer, whose keen intellect and diplomatic expertise have proven invaluable in both peaceful and perilous encounters. They are supported by a crew handpicked from the finest that Starfleet has to offer, each one bringing their unique skills, courage, and determination to the mission at hand. Together, they embody the very spirit of Starfleet, striving for excellence in everything they do.
In recent years, the Federation has pulled back from galactic affairs, but that time is over. Now, Starfleet is once again looking outward, reestablishing its presence among the stars and renewing its quest for discovery. The U.S.S. Cygnus is at the forefront of this resurgence, ready to spearhead missions into the vast unknown. With renewed purpose, her crew stands prepared to take on the challenge of exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations, and boldly going where no one has gone before.
As the galaxy continues to evolve and new challenges arise, the adventure aboard the U.S.S. Cygnus is far from over. Her next chapter is only the beginning, and she invites you to be a part of her journey. Join us on this epic voyage as we push the boundaries of knowledge, explore the farthest reaches of space, and uphold the ideals of the Federation.
The stars await - will you answer the call?

» A New Year Aboard the Cygnus
Posted on 03 Jan 2026 @ 10:53pm by Captain Bane Plase in General News
As we step into a new year, I want to pause, not as a character, not as a voice from the bridge, but simply as your Game Manager of U.S.S. Cygnus, speaking to each of you who make this game what it is.
The turning of the year is always more than a date change. It’s a renewal. A quiet moment where we are reminded that life, in all its complexity and uncertainty, continues forward, and so do we. In a world that often feels fractured, exhausting, overwhelming, or at the brink of world war, the act of imagining something better together is no small thing. Storytelling is not escapism. It is rehearsal. It is how we practice empathy, cooperation, resilience, and most importantly, hope.
The U.S.S. Cygnus exists because of that shared belief. Every post, every scene, every moment of character growth reflects real human creativity and care. This game is not powered by lore or mechanics alone, it is powered by trust, generosity, and the willingness of people to build something meaningful together. That is rare. That is precious.
The new year offers us a chance to renew our commitment to our fellow humans, by choosing patience, kindness, and curiosity, both in and out of character. It is a chance to renew our commitment to life itself, by recognizing that creativity is an act of defiance against despair. It is a commitment to each other, by remembering that behind every post is a real person giving their time, imagination, and heart. And it is a commitment to the game, by continuing to tell stories that matter, stories that challenge us, uplift us, and remind us why we fell in love with Star Trek and collaborative storytelling in the first place.
The future of the U.S.S. Cygnus is full of possibility, not because everything will be easy, but because we face it together. New missions. New voices. New moments of quiet humanity amid the stars. The same shared purpose that has carried us this far will carry us forward.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for trusting one another. Thank you for choosing to imagine a better world, even if only on a starship, because that choice echoes far beyond the screen.
Here’s to a new year of renewal, connection, and remarkable stories yet to be told.

Hi all
I am writing this to ask for your help.
I am raising funds for two charities. One is Cancer Research UK Race for Life and the other is National Autistic Society 60miles in June.
National Autistic Society help neurodivergent people and their families understand the neurodivergence, how to get social services help and provide activity centres for neurodivergent people to meet each other. However, in Preston and Lancashire these are very limited and/or non-existant.
So I am doing this 60 miles in June to raise funds to help the National Autistic Society get those services increased. It is two miles a day, over 30 days.
if you wish to donate to this, feel free through the link below ( you may have to copy and paste).

Cancer Research UK is the biggest UK charity for cancer research. I am raising funds for their yearly event of 5k Race for Life on the 7th June 2025.
This is something I try to do every year to help the charity raise funds for their vital services. I do it in memory of all that have lost their fight with cancer, are fighting cancer and may end up fighting cancer in the future.
If you wish to donate to this, feel free through the link below (you may need to copy and paste).

» A New Domain
Posted on 22 Oct 2024 @ 6:21pm by Captain Bane Plase in General News
Hello officers and crew of the USS Cygnus, this is the Captain. It gives me great pleasure to officially announce that we have a new domain. We all know that the Cygnus game has been an independent game, free from the constraints, bonds and trappings of a Fleet for two years now. Jessica May was gracious enough to create a subdomain for us when we left the prison (fleet, with an intentional lower case f) that shall not be named under her Freedom Fleet venture, but we stood apart that entire time, not a part of her Fleet. It is now official that we have our own domain that represents the Cygnus and the Cygnus alone. Our new domain, and web address, is http://www.USSCygnus.com. While largely seamless and we can continue playing our game as usual with no missteps, this is a huge day for the Cygnus game. It is now officially on its own out there, exploring the stars and uncovering the cosmos.
Very special thanks goes out to Mx. Jessica May for her unwavering devotion to the Cygnus and her willingness to host a subdomain for us.
Additional thanks goes out to Mrs. Sandy for her assistance in helping me create a new domain and pulling all of the files and databases over to this new domain.

» A Very Happy Holidays
Posted on 09 Dec 2023 @ 11:36pm by Captain Bane Plase in General News
Hello Officers and Crew of the Cygnus!
We just completed our mission, Outbreak, today. Congratulations! Finishing a mission on games such as this are a huge accomplishment. Each and every one of you deserve a pat on the back and special recognition for this achievement. We started this mission on September 5, 2022, and ended it on December 9, 2023, a mission of more than a year! I admit I was very surprised that it had been that long, but there was so much to do, so many stories to tell, and so much fun to be had.
We will go on Shoreleave now, and will remain on Shoreleave until after the holidays. Feel free to post to your hearts content on either the ship, or the space station, or even Bajor or one of the systems moons! The world is your oyster. After the holidays, we will start our next mission, Enigma Variations.
A response to a distress call throws the Cygnus into the Underworld of the Federation and possibly the deaths of tens of millions of Federations citizens and the destabilization of the entire Alpha Quadrant!
During a routine survey of local space, the crew of the starship Cygnus detect a distress call from an independent freighter travelling through Federation space. When responding to the distress call, the Cygnus detects something that is, at best illegal, and at worst, could result in the deaths of untold millions and the destabilization of the Alpha Quadrant.
Sounds ominous!
In other news, welcome back to Sam, formerly Lieutenant Commander Larsen. He is bringing aboard Lieutenant Commander Stovek, a Vulcan officer, fulfilling the role of Chief of Operations. Also welcome aboard new character, played by Sandy, Lieutenant (jg) Kaelyth Solmarr occupying the role of Assistant Chief Engineer, and finally, welcome aboard Steven, who will be playing Ensign James Aznable in the role of Tactical Officer.
Exciting times lay ahead for us, and I am thankful I get to experience it with each of you!

» 2023 Off to a Great Start!
Posted on 17 Jan 2023 @ 5:02pm by Captain Bane Plase in General News
Greetings one and all!
As the title so indicates, 2023 is off to a great start for the cast and crew of the USS Cygnus. We have a very compelling mission going on with First Contact of a new species, there is a very interesting side-story in play with one of our characters having a mental breakdown and questioning his place on the ship and in Starfleet and the characters and players of the ship have come together, closer than friends and colleagues and fellow writers. We have become important in each others lives, and been there to lift each other up when needed. This sim and ship is strong, because of the strong storylines, because of the strong connections between the players, and because of you individually.
I do encourage everyone to log onto the site a few times a week to make sure you are seeing all of the updated joint posts you are involved in, and to ensure that you have not missed a post that has come out from one of our amazing authors. I have heard that the emails are not coming to some of yours email inboxes. From the technical side of things, everything looks exactly right as near as I can tell, so the best way to combat this is to get into the habit of simply logging in and taking a look around.
Finally, I wanted to let everyone know that we are always looking for new people to write with us. If you know someone that likes to write, likes to play Star Trek Online, likes Star Trek, or likes Science Fiction, point them to this site. The worst they can do is not come look.
I look forward to seeing more of what you all come up with. I've never been so lucky to be a part of a crew like each of you, and hope we can continue this for many, many years to come.
