ON
Ravi was so tired. It seemed like there was always such a lot to do and so little time to do it in but then again, that way she didn't have a lot of time to think about Vaat so much. Or so she told herself silently. But who was she kidding? She thought about him all the time.
Tonight all she really needed was sleep but her mind wouldn't have any of that. Her thoughts raced. They had talked and Vaat had told her he was staying onboard the Cygnus because of his friends who had told him he was needed here. Also to stay amongst his friends - which she understood completely and thought it healthy and wise.
She had to admit she had smarted a fair amount that he hadn't said he wanted to stay because she was here and she valued him and his input and company too but then, they had discussed it further and he had said it would be fine if she would have wanted to follow him if he didn't stay.
That had set something racing inside her. A dream that they might do something like go to live on Bajor together.......well, he hadn't said anything more 'together' than friendship.... but she had hopes. She wanted to be more than friends with him. What did he want though?
It was no good, she had gone over and over these thoughts and questions and she was dizzy with the circles she was spinning in. She got out of bed and gave up the whole pretence of trying to sleep. It wasn't working. It didn't work any night lately and she was just exhausting herself more, lying here wondering what Vaat was thinking, what Vaat would say if she asked him outright, why she didn't just go to see him and spend time together.
She showered, dressed and made her hair look tidy. Then she messed it up to make it look casual. Then she brushed it all straight and shiny again, then she threw the hairbrush across the bed and stomped to the sitting room of her quarters to stop herself fussing so much.
Tapping her comm badge, Ravi made a call to Vaat.
=^= Winters to Lieutenant Lisald =^=
She glanced suddenly at the time. ~OH NO~ what if he'd already gone to bed himself. It was quite likely. What if he had friends round? What if he had someone special round. She gasped and reached to snap the call closed just as he answered.
Lisald, in his own quarters, started at the sudden voice overhead. He recognized it immediately as Ravi Winters, the girl he was now pursuing and dating. It was wonderful to hear from her. With everything going on with the mission, they had little time to spend with each other since their first kiss. He suddenly wondered why she was calling so late. Hopefully nothing was wrong. Tapping his commbadge, he said, "This is Vaat. It's good to hear from you, Ravi!" His voice did not belie the pleasant butterflies he was feeling inside.
=^= Hi, I'm sorry it's so late =^= she began, wondering if she had sufficient courage mustered to go through with her initial spontaneity.
=^= I was having trou.... I mean, I wanted to check to see how you are and... well, to see if .....you weren't asleep were you? =^= her voice began to tense up and she began to speak more quickly.
=^= I'm SO sorry if you were.... sleeping? Did I wake you? =^= her concern was almost palpable.
"Not at all," came the reply from the science officer. "I was just looking over some of the scans and information we are gathering on the planet below. I am sure Commander Larsen will want a report sometime tomorrow on it. What are you up to?"
=^= I'm.... well to tell the truth, I can't sleep. I've tried...... in fact ...... =^= she stopped. She realised she couldn't tell him why so she'd better not start off with things she'd have to explain. =^= just a bit too warm, is all =^= she fibbed a little white lie. She was a bit warm but that was because she'd been in bed and it seemed to be a better line to follow.
"I see," he began. "Do you want me to get ahold of Lieutenant Hartley about adjusting the ambient temperature in your room? Or do you think you are coming down with something? If so, I think Dr. Kin'Fuji is on duty," he said, and immediately wondered if she was. "Or maybe you just want to take a walk in some cool air? We could beam down to the planet and take a stroll on one of their remote beaches," he offered, hopefully. It was corny, but in a romantic sort of way. He really liked Ravi.
=^= Dr Kin.... nooooo, thank you..... I'm a doctor too. Physician heal thyself, you know? =^= she answered a bit confused about his reply but then it had been a very strange side-catch comment that she'd made to keep her real problem from him.
=^= I like the cool air remedy to be honest. I think you might even be a good candidate for a medical internment! =^= So? It was a bit corny but she'd take it. 100%. =^= I couldn't ask you to come too though. That'd be really unfair, I'm sure you're very busy and.....=^= she trailed off, trying to make sure she didn't protest too much that he might think she didn't want him to go too.
He was hoping she would take that option. "Ppffttt, I recommended it! I'd love to be there and do it. Plus, I could use a break. I couldn't think of a better way to do so than spend the time hanging out with each other."
~this was too good to be true!~ she thought excitedly. ~OH WAIT........ noooooooooooooooo! What was she going to WEAR!!~
=^= arggh =^= she didn't mean that groan to actually come out, out loud.
Lisald squished his eyebrows in confusion. "Uh, sorry, you probably want some alonetime, maybe? I can make a couple of recommendations. Lieutenant Spangler has had me scanning and analyzing the planet since we arrived, so I can pinpoint a few choice ones for you," he said, misinterpreting the groan.
=^= NOOO! =^= she squeaked in alarm. =^= I didn't mean I don't want to go..... or that I want alone time. I just groaned because I suddenly realised I don't know what to wear and I didn't want to show up in something ridiculous and make you think even worse of me...... and now.... you actually do..... admit it.... I'm so socially inept. I'm sorry!" she had decided this time not to try to side-catch that one but to come out with the complete truth this time. He'd soon enough find out how clumsy she was socially, she might as well come out and admit it now and if it put him off then at least it would save him time discovering it at a slower more painful pace.
She sighed sadly.
Lisald actually laughed out loud. "No, nothing like that! I just thought you..." he laughed again at the silliness of it. "I'd love to come. Wear your bikini. I'll be wearing swim shorts. We can go swimming in the ocean near the equator. It is an amazing 35 degrees Celsius on this island I am thinking of and there isn't population within 400 kilometers of it. It's also devoid of some of the more dangerous fauna. Interested?"
=^= I can't wait =^= she replied, the relief audible in her voice. =^= transporter 1, 20 standard Federation minutes? =^= she cheered up a lot. His laugh was infectious and it made her feel warm and welcome.

ON THE PLANET:
"This place is .... it's beyond words!" Ravi sighed as the two of them materialised in the destination put into the transported by Vaat.
She put down the 'picnic' basket she'd packed from the replicator and the towels she'd brought too. She was already wearing a sun hat, and had felt very foolish wearing it around the ship as she made her way to Transporter 1 but it was all totally worth it now.
She fetched some sun barrier spray out of the basket and began to apply it, offering it to Vaat in case he wanted some too.
He took it and squeezed some into his hand, the feel of the sun feeling positively amazing on his back, chest, arms and legs. "May I," he asked, his left eyebrow raised.
"Please" she replied simply, a blush forming on her cheeks but a very happy smile on her face to go with it. This was perfect. It was the perfect setting, the perfect weather, the perfect person to be with. She breathed in deeply and allowed herself to hope that he was feeling the moment too.
He smiled too, and moved around to the back of her. He put his hands on her cool skin and started rubbing the lotion in, being careful to move her black hair hanging on her back to over her left shoulder. He let the lotion and his hands glide over her skin, knowing she was watching the waves lap the sand in front of them, and hoping she was enjoying herself. At first, he was on his knees, but as he continued to apply lotion to Ravi, he settled down, a leg on each side of her so she was now sitting between his legs. "This is wonderful," he let slip through his lips.
"I know" she agreed, laughing. "I'm definitely getting spoiled." She twisted against his chest and looked up at him. "It's my turn to do your suncream now!" she said. "I can't have all the spoiling. You deserve some tlc too."
Lisald laughed. "I, uh, didn't expect this at all, but sure!" He moved and shifted over so he could look out upon the water.
Ravi sat behind him and spread suncream on his broad shoulders, more impressed with every new development of their relationship. She was looking more at Vaat then the sea now and all the awkward self-conscious shyness was melting away. She felt so comfortable in his company and touching him like this, none of which she would have been able to even think about without getting all concerned about what he might think, what he might say, what she might say wrong, whether he'd get put off and move on, all the fears and worries she had suffered with earlier on when she wasn't even sure he liked her.
Here in this setting, in their swimwear, away from all their normal surroundings and just the two of them with all this wonderful, exquisite nature surrounding them, somehow, there wasn't any unease or awkwardness at all. It was clearly a whole different world and they were like completely different people.
Moving around to spread sunscreen on the front of Vaat's legs and then moving up to his musclebound chest, Ravi finished and declared he'd have to stand up, or roll over so she could cover the backs of his legs but before he could she seemed to be standing up too but grabbed the chance to pop the smallest plop of cream to the tip of his nose, in pure fun and mischief. "OOPS!" she pretended to be mortified but was falling about with laughter so she gave herself away. As he started to get up she ran for it, knowing there would be some kind of deserved retaliation.
At first surprised, then noticing her dissolving into laughter before she bolted away from him. Before he knew it, he was chasing her playfully down the beach, her zigzagging in a route generally towards the water, both of them laughing and playing silly games that boys and girls from most worlds played. He finally caught up to her in the water, when it was up to his calf muscles. He grabbed her about the waist and twisted, bringing her down on top of him as he went down into the water, back first, submerging them both.
"nooo" she began to protest as he reached her and took hold of her waist but she knew she was going to need her breath soon so she stopped and sucked in a chest-full of air quickly as she felt herself going downwards. The water wasn't very deep at all but they were both under it, and the wave movement tugged at them both as it pushed softly against them up the beach a little and then sucked them back as it drained down again.
There was a wonderful moment when the two of them were under the water when Ravi opened her eyes to look at her captor, hoping to see his own eyes open - she anticipated how amazing his eyes would look in this cool, bubbling, turquoise water. She had to concentrate to stop herself pulling in a small gasp of delight as she saw his hair floating around his head and framing his handsome face. It was a split seconds moment but it seemed to last for ages before Ravi tugged upwards the short distance to the surface of the playful waves to draw in a long gasp of air.
Coming up right after her, he stood, the water cascading down his body to rejoin the ocean, he shook his head, then looked at her, laughing. "You boop me, I scoop you," he said, grabbing hold of her waist again, but this time to pull her in closer. For only a moment, or maybe a lifetime, who is to know, really, their faces were close, their bodies touching. He looked at her, and she looked at him, both breathing hard, either from holding their breath or from the chemistry between them. Their lips touched, his arms wrapping slowly around her, his hands planted firmly on her back, and he held her close and kissed her.
For Ravi, this was all she had wanted from the first time they had met, having their little adventure, trying to fool the nuisance who had been pestering her. She had sat down beside Vaat and asked him to help her because of these very eyes that she was gazing into, their kindness, the trustworthy feeling they gave her. Now though, finally in his arms, finally feeling his lips on hers, there was no doubt in any cell of her body or mind that this was the man of her fondest dreams, of her heart's desire and other desires too, clearly. Ravi kissed him back, and again, and with a deep need to make it clear to him just how much he rocked her foundations.
