At the Sharp End - Part 4
Posted on 10 Dec 2023 @ 2:32pm by Lieutenant Commander Raviran Dattek-Winters
407 words; about a 2 minute read
Mission:
Shoreleave
Location: The Staff Offices, Administration Centre/USS Cygnus Antioc.
Timeline: directly after part 3.
Ravi lost herself into darkness, just as a person entered the suites where she had been detained but as she was still barely conscious, she saw the tall Antiocian 'Staff' man (as she had secretly named him inside her own mind). He was returning at last but she couldn't stay conscious long enough to hear what he had to say.
It was true, he had come back to tell her she couldn't see the Tashi but he'd been away too long and she'd lost consciousness too many times. This time, she stayed in the darkness, never finding out that her attempts to take the blame had failed.
Never getting to ask Lisald if they could go and live on Bajor as they'd planned now, never getting to tell him that at the end, her mind had cleared and she'd remembered what they'd planned and said, and that her previous misconceptions were just because of her head being so badly damaged that her brain had been bleeding internally for the past 24hrs.
The Antiocian that Ravi had called Staff, tried to rouse her and, realising she'd slipped into some kind of coma, he picked her up like a doll and rushed to the medical quarters where he found Harriss searching around frantically for Ravi after having checked her quarters and found her missing.
Harriss rushed over to Ravi's floppy body and gasped as he tried to take her pulse. "What the Hell happened to her?" he demanded, but he didn't have time for the reply as he took her into his own arms and pressed his comm badge.
=^= Harris to Cygnus =^= he made contact. =^= Two for emergency medical transport to Sickbay. Lt Winters is unresponsive with an irregular, faint pulse and a head injury =^= He barely finished speaking before the two of them were in Main Sickbay on the Cygnus, emerging in a haze of blue lights, and he was setting Ravi down on a bio-bed, raising the life-support around her, his fingers flashing over the LCARS controls to try to establish a successful field around and within her body. He wasn't having much success.
"I'm losing her" he blurted out, distraught. "Is the CMO here?"
"No" someone replied, rushing over to try to help him. "He's still on the planet"
A long shrill bleep sounded as Ravi flatlined and the whole sickbay crew assisted frantically in trying to restart her heart and revive her.
