Damage Assessment before more damage!

Mission: Stranded

Christina dug around in the emergency kit that she had pulled out of the storage unit in Engineering, finding what she was looking for; portable lighting. With engineering being powerless, the first thing they needed was to be able to see what they were doing.

As she turned on the device, the area lit up enough for her to see what was going. She passed the portable light to Lucas, who placed it on a console, letting people see where they were going.

“Come on guys, find the other lights, we need to be able to see what we’re doing if we’re gonna repair everything,” Christina said.

“Again,” Lucas scoffed, as Kin was going around, checking the engineers. Three of them were removing the bodies of the six engineers who died in the… whatever the hell happened, and putting them out of the way. They’d get them to stasis and sickbay later, but for the moment, for all Christina knew, they were the only survivors. Somehow, she doubted it, but she had to make sure that the ship was intact.

“I’ve got the power cells,” Lisa called out, returning from the engineering cargo bay. “Found a couple of survivors from security as well,” she added, as two security officers were pulling a large crate into engineering.

“You two okay?” Christina asked the engineers.

“Yeah, we’ll live,” one of them, Ensign Dawn Summerson replied. “Not sure what happened, but we were on duty by the storage areas. Whilst the ship was towing that freighter, we needed to keep everything secure.”

“Good call. Comms are dead, hell, everything’s dead. Steer clear of my office; the gravity plates have the room the wrong way round,” Christina said. “Not easy to get out of.”

“Where can we put these?” Ensign Merrick Sutherland asked.

“Just there next to the master systems display,” Christina said, as several more lights were activated around the room.

“Anyone bring marshmallows and a guitar?” Fred Perry asked.

“Not the moment, Fred,” Graham Ackerly said, rolling his eyes.

“Alright, let’s see if we can get the Master Systems Display powered up,” Christina said, kneeling down and opening up the panel. She shook her head and growled in frustration. “Right, I need replacement isolinear chips before we can try powering up this damned thing,” Christina said bitterly.

“I can pull some from another console,” Lucy White said, as she began to scrounge what was needed from a display panel next to Christina.

“We’ll also need to visually inspect the warp core as well, before we can try and power it up,” Marcus pointed out.

“Okay, you just volunteered,” Christina replied, looking up and seeing Marcus already at the core.

“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it,” Marcus replied.

“Not to be pessimistic, but where do we get anti matter to restart the core?” Lisa asked.

“Torpedoes. We’ve got Quantum torpedoes, we can use the antimatter power cells to give the core a jump start,” Christina replied, as she began to pull out the burnt isolinear chips, handing them to Graham, who began looking at the chips Lucy was pulling out, trying to find replacements.

“I’ll get started on that. I could use an escort,” Melissa said.

“I’ll go with you,” Dawn offered.

“Same,” Lucas offered.

“Take the right kit; you’ll need to stop by storage bay two and get containers for antimatter,” Christina said. “Get the power cells back here, and we’ll connect them once we’ve got backup power ready.”

“We’ll be back as fast as we can,” Melissa said, heading out of engineering, forcing the doors open as she did.

“Christina, you need to remain still whilst I heal your arm,” Kin’Fuji said, kneeling by her wife.

“Not the best time to ask me to do that,” Christina pointed out.

“I’ll take over for the moment,” Graham said, kneeling and starting to take over Christina’s job as Kin ran the tricorder over Christina’s arm.

“Are you feeling okay, love?” Kin asked, concerned.

“Minor headache, probably from the concussion,” Christina admitted.

“When did you become a doctor?” Kin teased, with a small smile.

“Can’t spend all my spare time with you without learning a few things,” Christina pointed out. “K’tress has fallen asleep already, thankfully,” she added, pointing to their daughter, who was asleep on Amy’s lap near the entrance to engineering.

“Small mercies,” Kin replied, running the regenerator over Christina’s arm. “I was so scared when I woke up.”

“So was I. I’m sorry I wasn’t there with you love. I found you unconscious, but you were okay, then I realised K’tress was in engineering,” Christina said.

“I know love. It’s okay,” Kin told her.

“Is it? I knew you were breathing, but that’s all I knew,” Christina admitted.

“Love, it’s okay, really. I was fine, and you’d have known if I was in worse condition. K’tress is always important to us, and you made sure she was okay,” Kin assured her. “I’m proud of you, Christina.”

“I wish I felt I deserved that,” Christina said softly.

“You do. Now, that should keep your arm fine until we can get you to sickbay,” Kin told her, before kissing Christina softly. Christina smiled into the kiss, closing her eyes briefly, before she knelt down and helped Graham replace the isolinear chips, sighing as she realised they were missing two important chips.

“Get me an engineering tricorder,” Christina said. “I might be able to use it to rewrite the coding of another isolinear chip to let us put it in place of a different one.”

“Worth a shot,” Graham said, pulling a tricorder from his belt. Christina worked furiously with the tricorder and the isolinear chip, before plugging it in, and then connecting the power cell to the console.

There were cheers as the Master Display Panel lit up, flickering briefly, but then staying lit up. Christina stood up and began to run the diagnostic, looking at the damage.

“Right, not sure what happened, but we’ve lost the sensor pod, the Port Nacelle seems like it’s screwed up, Primary Shield Grid is friend, deflector dish offline, no phasers, comms, multiple hull breaches…. God, this is a nightmare,” Christina said.

“How are we supposed to get this ship back up and running?” Lisa asked.

“Right now, we need to focus on life support and the deflector dish, so we can all stay alive,” Christina said. “That’s our first goal.”

“Christina, we have a problem,” Graham said. “The warp nacelle… there’s an explosion building up!”

“Everyone brace!” Christina ordered, moments before the ship shook again as a new explosion caused the ship to rock, hard, sending it flying as the port nacelle came away from the ship, with everyone being thrown around again. Christina’s thought before she fell against a wall was ‘Not again’ as she hoped they’d get through this in one piece…
