600 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
Shoreleave and Reassignment
Location: The Approach to the Bajoran Gardens - Starbase 375
Timeline: Current
BEFORE:
Whomever it was that she had barrelled into, had caught her and prevented her from falling. Ravi felt very grateful and the change to a 'nice' emotion from the storm of harsh emotions that had been pursuing her a moment ago, all seemed to press on the back of her eyes and the main control in her knees.
"I'm so sorry" she began again "I'm a doctor" Her seemingly detached inner mind shouting at her... ~say what?~
At that point she began to slide towards the floor only to look up at the Trill man, who seemed to be the only force keeping her vertical.
CONTINUED:
"Hello Doctor" said Caj with a smile "I am a scientist." He held Ravi in both arms in a dip, like they were almost dancing. He steady her and asked politely "are you ok?"
"Scientist?" Ravi repeated. "perfect..... could you please help me with my destination. I was trying to get to the Bajoran Gardens but I seem to keep bumping into people on the way. My vertical alignment is damaged I think....." she felt as if she was a bit drunk, or maybe in shock but she grappled with gravity as best she could, using the very nice Scientist with the wonderful spots and smile, to help her stay upright.
"I haven't been drinking, I can assure you!" she suddenly said, more in response to an accusation from inside her head than one that he might have been about to utter, although she did wonder if he was thinking that.
"Sorry I wish I could help..." he paused a moment and coughed as he realised he still had his arms around her. He pulled he up straight and instead used one hand to steady the doctor. "you see I am rather new to the station myself. In fact, I am trying to find my ship. Perhaps maybe we could be lost together and one of us then should surely find what we are looking for?"
As the rescuer straightened up, Ravi managed to regain some kind of balance. "the Bajoran Gardens?" she said in a small voice, trying to turn and point towards it. She was a bit surprised how close she had actually got.
The Trill smiled "Take my arm and I will lead the way then Doctor?" He offered out his arm which was hooked like a tea pot handle "we will find your Bajoran Gardens"
"You're so kind" she said, gratefully taking his arm. It must have been the Prophets who had sent this man. He was very sweet and patient.
When they got to the entrance arch of the Gardens Ravi blushed and began to try to thank her "brave Scientist" as she called him. "Are you about to do anything right now?" she asked. "I would like to invite you inside and find the tea room that I'm told is in the centre.... I owe you at least a nice drink, or .... if you haven't eaten.... perhaps some Hasparaat Soufle?"
The Trill pulled out a ornate, silver, fine chained, pocket watch, looked at its face as he checked the time, mulled something over and muttered to himself saying that it must be lunch time somewhere and said "I could certainly go for a gin and tonic right about now and come food would certainly not go amiss"
Ravi's face broke out into a huge grin and she hurried a little as they moved inside, looking to see where the tea house was located. There was a computer terminal just inside where the could look for directions.
