After excusing himself from the Tashi and her aid, Bane retired to his quarters. Long scanned for listening devices, he knew what was said in here would be private. He tapped his commbadge. "Bane to Cygnus he began. It was time for him to report to the ship and let his Executive Officer know what was going on with First Contact, and everything he had learned so far.

On the bridge of the ship, Erik Larsen looked up at the ceiling, specifically to the sky light that was built into the ceiling of the bridge. It offered an unobstructed, non-computer generated view of the stars. "Cygnus here, Captain. Go ahead."

"Erik, things on the planet are going quite well," he began. "We have made good contact with the leader of the planet, a position they call 'Tashi.' She is a strong leader, and well-liked by her people. We have also made contact with the majority of their ruling council, called the Council of Elders. I believe you have already had the opportunity to meet a few of them?"

Erik nodded. "Yes Captain, when you informed us some would be coming aboard, I made my way to the transporter room and welcomed them aboard. I knew from your initial report they were tall, but I was not expecting them to be that huge," he said, a sly grin on his face. "We had a reception, and I assigned each of them to a Senior Officer, myself included, to be personally toured through the ship and to get personal attention."

Bane nodded. "That was a great idea, Commander, well done. I hope they are enjoying themselves. In other news, there seems to be a bit of a contagion breaking out near here. Dr. Elodin is keeping an eye on each member of the away team, just to be safe. Seems like it is pretty serious to the Antiocians, though. You might want to get Dr's. Winters and Kin'Fuji to research it up there, just in case the Tashi officially asks for our help."

Larsen nodded. "Will do." He made a mental note to make sure he would contact the three officers as soon as the call was cut off.

"Also, the Tashi shared with me they have known for a few years they were not alone in the galaxy. They picked up a garbled transmission, on subspace no less..."

"Subspace, Captain," the Executive Officer interrupted. "I did not believe they were advanced enough for subspace transmissions and communications."

"I know," Bane exclaimed excitedly. "They seem to be masters in communication. Who knows where they will be in that area in a hundred years. Certainly will likely match, or bypass, the Federation in communication techniques. It is a primitive form they have, and they do not have any relays, outside of the ones we saw in the system, of course. Still, they picked up one. Commander, it was Borg," Bane said, dropping the collosal news.

Instantly, Lieutenant Commander Larsen bristled. "Are you sure, Captain? We have not heard or seen anything from the Borg since Admiral Picard and the U.S.S. Titan tangled with them in the Sol System earlier this year. I thought they were extinct now."

Plase nodded. "Yeah, I am sure. I think it must have been a transmission from a world they assimilated many light years from here, and the transmission took several years to reach here. They happened to be listening with the right equipment when it passed through this system. Either way, we still need to let Starfleet know what's going on, just in case my hunch is wrong."

"Aye, Captain," Larsen said. "I'll take care of it imediately. Please be careful down there. If you get hurt or sick, I swear I'll put you on charges," he joked.

"I believe it," Bane said, a smile on his face and in his voice. "Bane out."

On the bridge, Larsen tapped his commbadge, notifying Lieutenant Spangler, then Dr. Winters, and finally Dr. Kin'Fuji of the disease starting to spread on the planet, and to start researching what was going on.

Once that was done, he stepped into the Captain's Ready Room and swung around the desk, sitting down in the seat. One day, he thought, and he would be Captain of this ship. He looked forward to it.

Pushing the thought aside, he tapped on the control to open subspace communication to Starfleet Command. He took the time to encrypt it too, since the Antiocians had the ability to hear subspace communications.
