BACKLOG: Transfering to Cygnus

1,079 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Outbreak
Location: DS9 Medical Lab
Timeline: to the day after Personal Invitation of the King

OOC: I'll tag people in order that I think I need them. Larsen, If that's different, please advise))

Delenna packed up all the specimens and samples she still needed and destroyed the rest. She wasnt going to take anything that wasn't needed to the Cygnus and she would move everything by gravity boards to the docking bay and onto the Cygnus. She wasn't taking the risk of contaminating the transporters with these specimens and the nature of the virus.

The DS9 Chief Medical came in to help pack and let the shielding down as they and Command staff were the only ones that had the codes. She wore a hazmat suit too for safety.
Delenna had already put the specimens in to individual boxes with a containment/contaminate shield around them to prevent the viruses spreading. "Keep everything level. Do not squash into a container." said Delenna. She knew the CMO was very capable but she wasn't taking any chances.

It was a slow process. No sudden moves or Delenna would have to start again. As the last boxes were loaded up and placed in bigger boxes and crates, Delenna packed up her personal belongings and added them to the pile of boxes and crates. She was then ready.

She walked to the airlock with her belongings and specimens and research, with the help of a few lower deck crew members, "Make sure they are secured. I don't want to cause a catastophe with those things," she said to the crew members. She turned to the officer at the docking door, "Delenna Morak, Chief Counsellor, reporting for duty." she said as she handed a PaDD to the officer.

The Executive Officer raised his left eyebrow as he accepted the data storage device. He gave the contents a cursory glance; the transfer orders were complete, but the remainder of the equipment was going to be an issue. “Welcome aboard, Counselor. I…uh, don’t seem to recall approving the transfer of medical equipment to this vessel, Lieutenant. Care to explain?”

"This is my research on Thelusian Flu and the effects it has on all species and to come up with a cure. I spoke to the captain about it a day or so ago," replied Delenna. It was frustrating to Delenna that she had to explain what her equipment was for. She would have thought the Commanding Officer would have told the XO. "I also need changes made to a medical lab to contain my work in as I may need to do more tests."

“Forgive me, Lieutenant. I’m just not accustomed to Counselor's conducting sensitive medical research,” said the XO dryly. “And if changes need to be made to a lab to contain your work, then we need to verify that said lab is ready before these crates enter that airlock.” He examined the requisition in greater detail, then tapped his comm badge. “Larsen to Operations. Our new Counselor is coming aboard with medical equipment and virus samples in stasis. Is Med Lab Three ready to receive?”

There was a brief pause before the reply came from the Chief of Operations. "I have no information on the transfer of viral samples," said Bast. "I need full documentation and I need to coordinate with Medical before I can authorize the transfer. What's the required containment level?"

“Standby,” said Larsen. He keyed a series of controls on the PaDD. “Transmitting the requisition to your station now.” This was quickly becoming a logistical nightmare. “My apologies, Lieutenant Bast. We appear to have been caught with our proverbial pants down. Thelusian Flu samples. Level Three bio-containment.”

"I'll have to clear it with Medical," replied Bast. "Please stand by."

The commline chirped, signalling that the Operations officer had put them on hold.

Delenna rubbed the ridge of her nose, cursing her new commanding officer, "This is get back for earlier or he hates me already." She looked at the XO, and smiled "Captain Bane must be very busy with the preps and forgot to give the details I gave him in. On the note of being a Counsellor with a Medical project, I go where needed in Medical. I am qualified as a Medical Officer too."

The commline chirped again as the Chief Operations Officer returned. "This is Lieutenant Bast. Medical needs twelve hours to clear the required space and set up the biocontainment field before the transfer can be authorized."

“Thank you, Lieutenant Bast,” replied the XO. “Please inform me when the lab is ready. Larsen out.” Erik tapped his comm badge to close the channel, then turned to face the incoming Counselor. “It looks like we are on hold for twelve hours. Will your samples be safe in the DS9 cargo hold until then?”

"Yes, as all the boxes, I created for this reason. I have dealt with serious viruses that the hightest containment that Starfleet Medical had, leaked the virus all over the place. These have been tested at the Station where the Thelusian Flu started. I made alot of changes to various things to better the containment. Even these boxes have level three containment upgrade fields.”

“Excellent,” responded Larsen. “It look like you have covered all of the bases, Counselor Morak. I am certain Dr. Elodin will want to coordinate his staff with you…and if you need any resources for your studies, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Lieutenant Bast in Operations.” He passed the tablet back to the younger woman. “Everything seems to be in order with your transfer.” He extended his hand in greeting. “Welcome to the Cygnus, Lieutenant Morak.”

"Thank you, sir," smiled Delenna, taking the Commander's hand. "I didn't want to risk anyone wherever I went."
Delenna stepped further into the airlock and while she waits on medical team to sort a research bay out, she leaves her samples etc with Larsen. She could still keep an eye on the containers while on the ship. She turned to the officers as they were leaving with her stuff because her watch scanner beeped, "DON'T SHAKE THEM! YOU BREAK ANYTHING, YOU WILL BE MY GUINEA PIGS!"

The XO rolled his eyes, then looked back with a wry smile on his lips. "Squeak, squeak, Counselor," he yelled back at her, just as she rounded the corner.
