Ravi opened one eye, sleepily and then the other. She had been aware for just a little while already but she wanted to gather whatever thoughts she had around here somewhere. She felt herself frown and then heard the one voice she wanted to hear above all others. "Li....?!" she croaked, surprising herself with the hoarseness of her own voice and stopping as soon as the strange sound started to come out.
"I...." she started again but it wasn't any clearer so she gave up. She opened her eyes fully and saw what she wanted to see most in the Universe. Lisald's perfect eyes, windows to his soul, and her heart fluttered, surprising her yet again, this time with a flutter on the monitor behind her bed, making everyone in the room jump and fuss and run tests and flick LCARS lights and ask each other a million questions all at once so that no-one could possibly even hear each other, let alone answer.
It seemed somewhat comical to the drowsy mind of Raviran Dattek-Winters..... she toyed with the wholeness of her names and what they all meant and represented. It was odd, detached and very, very strange.
She felt as if she were drunk and wanted to laugh out loud and get up and dance. ~Definitely ODD~ she thought and some of it came out of her mouth. "(Indistinct) ely ODD" she croaked and the whole room fell silent, all turning back towards her and a lot of breath held.
Matt Kensington was the first to speak. Ravi looked up at the handsome surgeon and recognised him instantly. ~He's not as handsome as Lisald~ she thought, still feeling decidedly drunk.
Unable to hold it in, she began to giggle and the sound that came out of her throat now was like someone strangling an Aristonian Aricole Frogmouthed Pelican. And that image in her mind was even funnier, so she laughed more and sounded like she was not only AT death's door but past it being dragged in by the throat.
Matt made a strange sound of his own and scrambled for the medcorder, examining her throat and eyes and peering into her mouth with a stylus holding her tongue down.
Ravi stopped seeing the funny side of this now and batted the stylus away. Hallum had brought her some water and she spotted this and grabbed it, gulping it all down as if she were dying of thirst.
"What ARE you doing Lieutenant?" she grumbled, finally getting some voice back in her throat now it was moist again. She batted Matt's hands away and tried to sit up.
Lisald had been pushed away, first back and then to the right, so that now he was outside of the field of vision of Ravi. He put his hand on her head, with the habitual intention of stroking her hair, only to place it on the bandages that covered her head. "Hey," he cooed, "Ravi, its ok. He is just checking you out," he said, attempting to reassure her. He was more than thrilled she woke up, and was more than thrilled that he was the first to see her eyes as her lids opened up slowly.
"Lisald" she sighed, instinctively settling back into her pillows as he was very gently trying to ease her there. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean what I said... I wasn't at all well...... I..... "
"Shhh," he hushed her, three times. "I can't even remember what you said, Ravi. Think nothing of it. Now, let doctor, uh...let the doctor," he said and stumbled, not being able to remember the doctors name, "Do his examination."
"I AM the doctor." she said, with an edge to her voice that surprised even her. "Until Elodin gets here, at least" she added more softly. "Why.....why can't you remember what I sai......." she murmoured, falling back asleep with no notice.
"Good" sighed Kensington. "Doctors make the worst patients, Lieutenant Vaat" he said as he upped the medication dripping into Ravi's bag, that was filling her i/v tube.
"She'll go back to sleep again now, we've proved that she's got all her faculties, and a sharp tongue that she's developed as an upgrade." he laughed and Ellen Hallum rolled her eyes right up into her head which made Matt laugh more and the rest of the team joined in with some chuckling.
"We're all so happy she's made it." Matt said and the rest of the team joined him as they all moved away and back to their duties, relieved at how well they had done. "Well done Team!" Matt called to them all and they acknowledged this good naturedly.
Only Hallum stayed with Ravi and plonked herself into the chair that she'd given Lisald earlier. She was in for the 'watch and wait' shift.
Matt patted Vaat's shoulder again and thanked him for his help and efforts. "She has to sleep and heal now." he said. "Now we know that what we've done has been successful, we can relax and let her do just that. "I'll wake her again in the morning if you want to come back then?" he offered. "I'll see she gets breakfast at 06.30hrs and by then she should be much brighter and less woozy."
Lisald nodded. "Sounds perfect, Doctor. Thank you for letting me be here and see her."
"Of course" Matt replied and took his leave again. "See you again very soon, no doubt!" he smiled.
