Wearing out the Carpet

Mission: Enigma Variations

ON:

He didn't care if he were going to wear a path in the carpeting on the deck. He didn't care how tired he was, or how tired his feet and legs were. The only thing Captain Bane cared about was his crew securing the freighter and getting back to the Cygnus. That way, he could then put as much distance between that freighter and his ship, to place a warning buoy here to keep other vessels from approaching.

Isolinium was a substance that, at bare minimum was illegal in the Federation, the Klingon Empire, as well as the Romulan Empire, and even the Cardassian Union. The potential damage even a single gram of isolinium had the potential to kill millions. That was just in its processed form. If it were purified and weaponized, well, Bane shuddered to think about the ramifications that would do.

The fact that they found a container of it scared the Prophets right out of Bane. He knew that Commander Bast and his team were working on a plan to secure it, to analyze it, and to find out where the hell it came from. He also knew that Lieutenant Seitha was currently down in Sickbay, standing guard over the survivors of the freighter, ready to escort them to the Brig, and to begin his questioning. Valuable and time-sensitive information could be gleaned from them, information that could save the lives of everyone on the Cygnus, and possibly every single living organism on any given planet in the whole quadrant.

Information is what they needed, and time was against them. How long until the container breached? What caused the massive hull breach on the freighter? What nefarious individuals or groups needed this material, and why?

So many questions, and all Bane could do was pace and wait for his officers to do the work they needed. All he could do was wonder, and hope that things didn't go from bad, to worse.
