Mission: Enigma Variations
Location: Independent freighter Bixilfiz

The Bixilfiz’s engine room was a cramped and dimly lit space, with consoles scattered throughout the deck, connected by meters of bulky and cumbersome cables, which Dylan had to step over. He almost dropped his data PaDD once again as three of those cables, each as thick as his wrist, tangled with each other, dangling from what looked like a hybridized Cardassian and Romulan console straight down to the floor, and ran across the room to a Zeppalite power relay. He'd already dropped the PaDD three times this shift by tripping over those bloody thick cables. It was a wonder the screen hadn't shattered on the electronic device.

He accessed the internal structural integrity field, and analyzed the field output for the entire ship for the fourth time. Every scan had revealed a new glitch - not something that was so surprising, given the nature of this ship, but time was running out. The First Officer had told them that they needed to get under way by 1600 hours, which meant they had less than two hours left.

McConnor looked at the results of the scan, and once again, there was a glitch in the structural integrity field, located around Deck Five, very near to the hull breach. He tried rerouting power from the nearest buffer relays to compensate, but they were already overtaxed by trying to seal the breach, and compensating for half a dozen other relays that had been destroyed or damaged in the explosion.

"I guess there's only one solution," sighed McConnor. He grabbed his toolkit and headed out of Engineering, heading for Deck Five to install a secondary buffer relay. He knew full well that it would take him the better part of an hour - time he didn't necessarily have, but time that was essential if they wanted the ship to make it to Deep Space Nine in one piece.
