Mission:
Stranded
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Concurrent with Playing Tugboat
Thalla zh'Ennev tried to make sense of the latest set of readings from the people they'd rescued from the freighter, but their injuries were still completely baffling. The computer had managed to isolate one commonality to all patients, but considering the various species, the commonality made no sense. Especially considering human physiology, the commonality was bordering on banal. Unless they were dealing with something entirely new...
She turned to th'Shylis, her Andorian compatriote who had been the previous Chief Medical Officer's preferred nurse. She handed him the data PaDD, and laid out her suspicions.
"I'm thinking a combination of 5% troporazine and 2.5% gamma-isoboramine might be helpful in lowering their cortisol levels. I need to run this by Doctor Winters, but can you go to the pharmacy to set it up?"
"Of course," replied th'Shylis. He took the device from Thalla's hands and headed for the pharmacy, just as a slight shudder was felt through the deck plates, a subtle sign of the ship starting to feel the strain of towing the derelict freighter at Warp.
Thalla found Ravi standing near the nurses' station, similarly poring over the test results.
"Ravi, can I run something by you? I think we can find a way to return their cortisol levels to something approaching normal, which might help us to bring them out of their coma." She presented the data PaDD to the chief medical officer for analysis.
Ravi took a long look, working out the formulae and nodding slowly as she read. "This is good work" she said, handing back the PaDD. "I think you're onto something here and I'm impressed. Let's give it a try." she agreed.
Delenna walked into Sickbay from the bridge, she looked round Sickbay and saw Dr Ravi and Thalia. She walked over and waited for them to finish. Although given the baffled faces, she had a feeling that she may be able to help.
"Hello Counsellor" Ravi greeted Delenna.
"Delenna," greeted Thalla, before turning back to Ravi. "I've got Kireth replicating the med cocktail. I think we should start with a low dose, and monitor closely. Thelaron radiation like the one they've been exposed to has inflammatory effects on the brain. Delenna, would you mind using your empathic senses to try and detect if anything changes... You know, in their minds?"
Ravi nodded agreement with that and turned towards Delenna to see what she thought about the proposed approach to monitor the patients telepathically.
Delenna nodded. "We can try." she said. "Just...." Delenna trailed off as everything went black. Did she pass out? No, she can register voices. She was still standing, she ran towards the scream, getting knocked off her feet more than once.
Thalla reached for the data PaDD that Ravi was handing back to her. But before she could take hold of it, her antennae suddenly jerked upward, a split second before her sense of spatial.orientation went completely haywire. What was up suddenly was down, before it went sideways. Every light went out in Sickbay, leaving them in total darkness just before the wall monitors erupted in fire.
Her mind registered a scream coming from the pharmacy. A brief scream that chilled her to the bones, but that was cut terrifyingly short. But she was otherwise preoccupied by the fact that her own left shoulder collided with what felt like another body, before impacting with the desk at the nurses' station and severely bruising her hip. The noise was terrifying, as patients screamed, consoles were blowing up, and things were falling all around them.
Delenna tried to get to anyone trapped in the pharmacy but the explosion sent her flying across Sickbay. She smacked her head on the wall and slumped on the floor with everything flying around her. She heard muffled voices and a seering pain in her head but it was too much and she passed out.
