Andante, Consigliere

Posted on 22 Oct 2024 @ 7:56am by Lieutenant JG Thalla zh'Ennev MD & Lieutenant JG Delenna Morak

508 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Stranded
Location: Sickbay

Thalla knelt by Delenna's side, her tricorder humming softly. The Counselor seemed to be drifting in and out of consciousness, obviously in shock. There was some blood on the deck next to her, and she was clearly favoring a side as she sat there.

The Andorian doctor finished her scan, and pressed a hypospray to Delenna's neck, administering a painkiller along with a stimulant to wake her.

"Dee?" she prodded gently. "Are you with me?"

"I hate being called "Dee"," replied Delenna. "Just about. Too much pain to cope with so I keep passing out."

Thalla smiled. "I know you hate it, that's why I said it. I knew it would get your attention. I just gave you something for the pain, and a stimulant to keep you awake."

She pressed a device to the back of Delenna's neck. "This is a neural block. It will paralyze you from the waist down, so you won't feel a thing."

She grabbed hold of Delenna's leg and prepared to pull it straight to set the bone. "Do you want to sing me a song while I do this?" she asked playfully, trying to focus Delenna's mind on something else.

"Just do it! If you have read my file, you know the shit I have been through," grimaced Delenna. "This is nothing compared to some of the injuries I got from my past."

"Suit yourself," said Thalla. "On three." She placed her hands on either side of Delenna's calf, and shifted her weight, preparing for the sharp tug that would set the leg back in place. "One." She took a deep breath. "Two..."

She pulled. The bones snapped back into place with a sickening crack.

"Three. How does that feel?"

"Dhxjxuuebricheuxudix!" Shouted Delenna. "Okay, I may have been wrong about the past injuries." As tears welled in her eyes. Delenna had been through some tough shit and injuries but she had to admit, she never had a protuding bone. It wasn't just the crack that made it sound like it hurt alot, it scraped the exposed skin and muscles which was like drawing a splintered piece of wood over the skin deeply.

"Remind me to have words about consecutive explosions with the Captain when this is over," whispered Delenna.

"Take a number," said Thalla. She took hold of the bone fusion unit and applied it to Delenna's leg. She picked up her medical tricorder and scanned the Counselor, assessing the rest of her injuries.

"The rest of your injuries are minor. There's lots of bruising, but nothing else is broken and there's no more internal bleeding. You'll feel like you were hit by a shuttlecraft for a while, but you'll be all right."

Satisfied that her friend was in stable condition, Thalla placed a comforting hand in her shoulder before getting to her feet, and moving on to another patient.

"Call out if you feel any discomfort," she instructed before walking away.
