Mission:
Shoreleave and Reassignment
Location: Delenna's Quarter's - Starbase Zetari
Timeline: 2386
Delenna took medical leave so she could get answers and process with as much counselling as she needed.
Delenna had packed most of her stuff by the time Dr Milandra announced he was retiring from Starfleet.
It may have been a pre-emptive move but Delenna had not been in the right headspace. She spent alot of time in psychosis because of PTSD and early trauma.
Trauma of the Battle of Wolf 359. She was triggered by current situations and found herself out of breath, when someone woke her up. She found it embarrassing that she would be in her pj's in the corridors, so would avoid sleeping but who wouldn't. The nightmares were horrendous.
Delenna tried locking her quarters door but she found herself in the jeffieries tubes, running from her nightmares that she couldn't wake up from. It took others to snap her out of it.
It became too much to not sleep, or to deal with the nightmares of the trauma. She became paranoid about having been assimilated without her knowing, to the point of psychosis as she wasn't sleeping, and was sleep-running through the station Zetari.
She needed help and the best place was with the Medical team at Starfleet.
------
Dr Milandra walked down the corridor of the deck Delenna's quarters were on to see her before he departed in a few days. His prodigy would be taking over all his work on Zetari, while he retired from active service and became an instructor in counselling at Starfleet Academy.
He found Delenna's quarters a few minutes later, and pressed the doorbell. Delenna responded to the chirp of the doorbell "Enter." She turned round to see Dr Milandra at the door. "Hi, Dr Milandra. How are you?" she smiled.
"I could ask you the same question but I think I know the answer to it," he replied, "I am fine. I came to talk to you about what to expect when we get back to Earth."
Delenna smiled " Constant watch, weekly if not daily counselling talking about the traumatic situations I have been in, the feelings I have around them, the nightmares, and all that Jazz." Delenna paused. "All the things that I have gone through before minus the fact of sleep walking through my nightmares."
Dr Milandra nodded and stepped up to Delenna, "And you may get to go home too." He said. "I recall you telling me that you'd curl up to Shaw when your nightmares and trauma got the better of you."
"Yes, I did, but I am an adult now. I should be coping without that. I look up to him as a father. What adult child sleeps with their father?"
"It is a valid point and while we work through those things, I'd like to invite you to come and stay with me at my home. I think it will be better for you and I can work with you twenty-four/seven on the sleep-walking through the nightmares."
"Well, I am mostly packed and can be ready to go when you do," replied Delenna, looking around the room.
"And on that note, you also forgot your session today with me," said Dr Milandra.
"Yeah, when I get hyper-focused on something, I have to finish it, so I forget the other things," replied Delenna, sheepishly. "Coffee, Doctor?" hinting at now is as good as ever for a session.
"Yes, please, as strong as the replicator will make it."
"Computer, 2 Raktajinos. Hot." The computer whirred and 2 mugs appeared on the replicator pad. Delenna picked them up and indicated to a seat for the doctor as she handed him his Raktajino.
"Did you manage to sleep last night?" asked Dr Milandra.
Delenna knew by now not to skirt around the issues she was having because Dr Milandra always knew. "About four hours broken, I think. I don't think I slept walk but my legs ached when I woke up and I was crumpled over the boxes in the living room."
"What caused that?"
"I was in Engineering of the Constance, sat on some cases that Shaw would need but not right there and then. I was sat talking to him about my day at school, and he started quizzing me on what he was doing. I leaned over on the cases and jumped down to join him in the tube." Delenna looked over to the Jefferies tube entrance and saw that it was still shut. "Of course, I didn’t open the conduit that Shaw was working in."
Dr Milandra sat and listened.
"I must of woken up crumpled because I leaned too far in person, whereas in the memory, I didn't. I slipped off the cases no problem. I don't think I have ever woken up crumpled. I didn't want to go back to sleep after that because it was one of the few times I woke up without it being a nightmare."
"Was each time you did sleep the same memory?"
"No, but I knew I needed to try and sleep. I had to try and shake my fear of my nightmares."
"It is good that you recognised that you need to sleep and try to overcome your fears. Tell me what happened in the others."
"I was on the Constance but everywhere I turned, everyone was assimilated. Even Shaw and my mother. Again there was no escaping the inevitable."
"Well, I think that is enough for today. I will see you in a few days to go home and I hope you will consider my offer," smiled Dr Milandra.
Delenna weakly smiled and nodded as she sttod up to see the Doctor out.
"We will fix you up." He said as he left.
Delenna thought to herself *We will fix you up* 'What if I am not fixable?'; What if I have to resign due to my issues?" Delenna shook her head and berated herself "Stop it, you'll just cause yourself more anxiety!"
She walked into the bedroom, moving boxes out of the way. She climbed onto the bed and laid there staring at the ceiling, before she knew it her eyes fluttered shut.
