Mission:
Shoreleave and Reassignment
Location: Starbase 375 Main Sick Bay
Timeline: Prior to 'Beach Party'
Caj was still getting use to the grand scale of Starbase 375 The last vessel he had served on, had been a Excelsior class star ship for his Starfleet academy cruise. Things had been more pact together on a starship. But here on starbase 375, sometimes it was like being on an actual planet. As such Caj was late when arriving for his standard medical checks, having got a little lost on route. The space station sickbay, was almost a hospital in its size. Caj needed to report to a Doctor of the USS Cygnus, as this would be his posting and as per starfleet protocol he needed one last check up.
Dr. Khalest T. had been enjoying the festivities on the beach, but now returned to her duties in the enormous sick Bay that had been set up. She realized she had a patient waiting. "Oh my! I apologize, and I will be right with you." She rushed over to a small, metal locker and removed a white lab coat, which she threw on over her beach ware, slipping on a pair of nurses shoes she had also gotten from the locker. Then sanitizing her hands with a small bottle of disinfectant, and dawning a pair of blue surgical gloves, she returned to her patient. "Once again, I apologize. How can I help you?" She gave a soft smile.
Caj smiled "Thank you Doctor." He handed over a small PaDD with his medical files on it. "I am transferring to the USS Cygnus Doctor and need a member of its medical team to check me over." He shrugged a little "Starfleet procedure I understand as its been a while since last I was assigned a starship posting."
"It is standard procedure, yes to be sure all of our records are correct and up to date, and that we are aware of any pathogens you may be carrying." She reached into a pocket of the white lab coat, producing a small scanner, connected to a small probe, by a long cord. "Do not worry. This does not go inside you. It just tells me if you have a fever or any injuries."
Caj nodded politely looking around for somewhere to perch. He settled on a nearby bio-bed. He lifted himself up on the bed with his legs dandling over the side. As the doctor began her examination Caj said conversationally. "I hope I don't have any fever or injuries. My last check up was about six months ago on earth."
"I recommend a thorough exam and check up every month. But I understand life events happen, people get distracted and sometimes forget to care for themselves." She kept her warm doctors smile as she waved the scanners sensor over his body "Lay flat on your back please, arms to your sides."
"Sure" responded the Trill, as he laid back on the bio bed. He adjusted himself a little as he lay back, pulling himself up the bed with his elbows so his head would rest on the small. "So Urmmmm how long have you been onboard the Cygnus?" asked Caj conversationally.
"About six months, I believe." She thought back. "No...five months, three weeks and two days." She corrected herself as she let the scanner do it's work, waving the sensor over the Trill's body once more. "Have you experienced any symptoms of motion sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, intestinal distress?" She looked to their face as she asked these questions.
"Oh Yeah.....like a lot" said Caj looking up at the doctor with a smile on his face. "I mean not the intestinal distress....unless you count last nights party food and alcohol. But in my previous line of work, there was motion sickness, nausea and vomiting all the time. One of the Hazards of the job."
"I believe that would count as overindulgence, but I do not think that is related to acclimating to another Starship. Have you experienced these symptoms recently, aboard the Cygnus?"
"No doctor...." responded the Trill. "Strictly with my last line of work. I have exhibited no symptoms since leaving Earth."
"Good. Then you are one of the lucky few who have not experienced such symptoms, during their first few days aboard the Cygnus." She turned the scanner off and returned it to her lab coat pocket. "You have a clean bill of health, Caj." She kept that professional smile.
Caj pushed himself up onto his elbows and smiled. "Over so quickly? You are very professional. Thank you kindly." The Trill started to get himself off the bio bed. "Well if you need anything from the science department Please let me know."
"Noted, and thank you." She kept that professional smile. She thought about returning to the beach with the other crew mates, as Caj seemed to be her only patient at that moment. Or she could at least change back into her proper uniform and await others like Caj, or something more serious.
"At least you have somewhere to work" said Caj, not really getting the hint that his time was up. "I don't even have a lab to work out of and i cant for the life of me, even get space to work on the ginormous space station..." He paused a moment as he got up off the bio bed and brushed himself off. "ah well. Anyway. Have a lovely day doctor."
"And you as well. And for the record, I do count myself as lucky that I have even this small space to work in. Because at least I can still do my job, effectively and efficiently."
"Well doctor" said Caj clapping his hands together and rubbing with a smile "thank you kindly for the check up. have a nice day." He smiled again.
She smiled back. "And you as well." She walked into the waiting area to see if there were anymore patients there. If not, she may return to the beachfront festivities.
