Security Has A Problem

Mission:
Shakedown
Location: Various
Timeline: Just after Mission Briefing
Maralen left the briefing and immediately made his way to the Security section of the ship. His intention was to start at the figurative bottom and work his way back up to his bridge station. The bridge station was only a monitoring and coordination hub, after all. The real foundation of Security was on Deck 11 and spread out from there.
Entering the office, Maralen took a look around. Behind the desk sat a Lieutenant Junior Grade who looked as though he had been having a fight with the desk and losing. Maralen approached and cleared his throat.
The lieutenant jumped slightly, not having heard his boss come in. The desk terminal had been refusing to give him the information he asked for. Oh, it gave him information, but not the information he wanted or needed. In truth, he had been just about to growl at it when he had heard the chief's throat-clearing.
"Uh, sorry, sir. Didn't hear you come in," he apologized quickly.
Maralen almost chuckled. "Nor would I expect you to, Lieutenant," he answered, his expression softening slightly into a small smile. "That's one of the advantages we cats have, silent footfalls." He cleared his expression then. "What's the problem?" His tone was just calm, no hard edges to it. But now he was all business.
The younger man swallowed and then glared at the desk terminal as though the threat of violence his stare implied would coerce it into proper functionality.
It did not.
He pointed. "That... thing it trying very hard to drive me insane, sir," he stated as if it was a diagnosis issued by the ship's counselor.
Maralen motioned for the man to move. He did, and Maralen sat before the terminal. After inputting several commands, requests for very specific security information, and getting everything but what he asked for, he frowned at the device.
Well, we were told there would be glitches. Though this 'glitch' could get someone killed if it persists.
"I will have someone down here to look at it," he assured the lieutenant.
The man nodded, and they switched places. He marked it on his list of things to report and left the lieutenant to continue his battle with the wayward piece of technology.
His next stop was the brig. Fortunately, that seemed to be functioning properly. Even the control console seemed cooperative. At least that was something.
He continued his check through all of the security section then made his way back up to the bridge. Putting his bridge console through some tests, he noted several minor irregularities and noted them in his list. New technology was always glitchy, but as security chief, he couldn't afford for it to be. So he sent his list to the appropriate people (Engineering and Commander Rh'Vareth) and tried to get back to work.
