Mission: The Festival of Unity
Location: Planetside
Timeline: During the storm

::ON::

The Ruins were ancient. Its stones, weather worn and smooth. The Ruins looked to of been long forgotten keep or castle. Its walls were gone, now just mounds in the wet mud, but raising up from different mounds were the making of some sort of structure. Luckily for those hiding inside this ancient structure was built up as well as down and around the site stairs could be found to various basement like rooms probably once used for storage or defence.

Now these rooms stored people and were defending them from the elements of the surprise flash storm above. Locals, tourists and starfleet officers gathered together in confined spaces. Caj was watching the storm from an arch way tricorder in Hand. His readings confused him as he could see no outlying metalogical reason for the storm.

Bane saw the helpless and scared people, terrified of the wild and powerful storm beyond these stone and earthen walls. Bane saw the Starfleet officers and crewmembers, leaderless, unsure, scared, unfocused. Although he was not wearing a uniform, he jumped into action. He looked over at Lagnas and was proud of the young man for taking some sort of action, though like Bane saw from the others, he needed to focus. "Lagnas, start helping to triage the injured and wounded. You, and you," Bane pointed to two random people, not knowing what their jobs were, since nobody here was wearing a uniform, "You've just become nurses. Assist the Ensign. Listen up everyone." Bane's voice was commanding, and he attempted to look bigger than he was. He needed to exude authority, and calm. "I am Captain Bane Plase. We are going to get through this, together, alive, and I need your help." The cacophony of voices halted, and he could hear a pin drop. "Anyone here have any meteorological experience," Bane called out to the rest of the room.

Caj, who was wet through, but thankful now of his short sleave Hawaiian shirt and board shorts for freedom of movement, quickly re-configured his tricorder for basic first info and began going through any injuries, when the Captain asked about 'Meteorological' experience Caj pip[ed up with "I took a module at the academy on terraforming. That has weather elements to it......"

Bane looked from the crowd to Ensign Lagnas. "Forgive me, but wasn't your academy days a decade ago," he asked. "Anyone else," he said again, turning his attention to the crowd. After a brief moment, a young woman raised her hand. She was only in her underwear, apparently caught as much in her bedclothes as Bane himself was. He also noted she had a nasty raspberry bruise down her left side, from her chest to her hip. Something had hit her during her scramble to safety.

"Captain, I have that experience," she said, standing and moving toward him, through the crowd. "Im Mreen Cobalt, a meteorologist from Trill."

Bane nodded his head. "Excellent. You and Ensign Lagnas get together and figure out this storm, and how long it should last, and if there are going to be any secondary or tertiary issues we need to be aware of."

Caj nodded smartly, though his shoulders had slumped slightly at the Captains referral to the time passed since Caj's Academy day." "Here..." he said to the Trill passing his Hawaiian shirt to cover up a bit and and his Tricoder, as they made their way to the entrance of the ruins to look at the storm."

She thanked Lagnas graciously, putting on the clothing. While she was not modest in the slightest, it did provide a modicum of warmth. Behind them, they could hear Bane issuing further orders, though the words were drowned out by the gale outside. "Do you think this is powerful enough to be able to read what the Captain wants, Ensign?" Her voice was shaky and uncertain. "Or is he just keeping us busy, keeping our minds off the danger we find ourselves in?"

"Probably a little of column a, a little bit of column b as the humans say. I dont know the captain that well. I have only been on his crew for a few days....." Caj shrugged a little "but he seems to know what he is doing." Caj looked over the Trills shoulder at the Tricorder "Try boosting the signal by using the comm relay satellites."

She nodded, and began to work trying to uplink to the orbital satellites. After several minutes of trying, and getting more exasperated by the moment, she huffed in a fit. "This isn't working. Too much interference. The ionization and electrical interference from this storm wont allow connection. Any other ideas?"

Caj politely leaned over and tapped a few button on the tricorder display "Hmmmm...Interesting, try using the static field created in the wave harmonic of the upper ionosphere to generate magnified vertion pulse to boost the link to the satellite through all networked satellites. That should do it?"

Mreen blinked at him like a hobleken to the light. "Uh...." she trailed off, followed by giving the Ensign the device. "I have no idea what you just said." There was no sparkle in her eye, no jovialness. She was soaked, sore and her throat hoarse from yelling over the howling over the wind. She was tired - and also was out of her element. She was used to climate-controlled beaches and buildings. Used to plentiful access to water and hot food and medical care. This disaster, and roughing it, drained her completely.

Caj took the tricorder with a sympathetic nod. His fingers danced diligently over the small buttons. "Don't worry...." said Caj as he continued to type "I have no idead what i am saying half the time either. Caj looked at the readings coming up on the tiny LCARS display. "hmmmmm. Fascinating....." Caj frowned a little at the readings and then asked "Well i think it was the weather satellites. But will need to take a closer look to found out how and why. There are energy patterns from them indicating recent extreme use. But it will need the ships sensors or the crew to figure it."

Caj looked up at the other Trill "Are you ok? Do you want to go back inside? Will be able to be beamed back to the station soon i imagine. We got to go back and tell the Captain what is occurring anyway…"

"Yes, lets go back inside," she said. "I want to dry off, and honestly, I am tired. Once we give the Captain our brief, I may try and sleep some."
