Mission:
The Festival of Unity
Location: Sickbay - Starbase 375
Timeline: After 'A Medical Affair'
Ravi was still working with the patients and staff on the Starbase and hadn't yet returned to the Cygnus because of the volume of casualties that were being sent up from the Planet below.
Amongst them all, Caj was still anxious about the weather system that had allowed - or perhaps caused - the recent violent storms that had hit the planet. He had made sense before but then again, he was constantly working on things that were too high-brow or scientific even for her trained brain. She concluded lightly that his was more 'Scientific Science' than her own 'medical science' so she could forgive herself for not being able to follow his logic most of the time so far.
However, this time, when he was talking about the Weather System being there to stop the storms, not create then and even exacerbating them, he was talking sense even to her level. She decided she needed to get him to someone who could listen to his theories and perhaps act upon them? In the meantime, she needed to keep him stable and if possible, logical, long enough to discharg him.
Approaching his bio-bed, once the critical and urgent cases were either sorted or under appropriate care - perhaps with a different member of the medical team here - Ravi saw that Caj had his eyes closed and mistaking him for being asleep, she took a glimpse at his PaDD notes and reassured herself that he was making progress. She then turned to leave him to his rest.
"At least if you are checking up on me doc i could get a bed time story..." Said Caj with his eyes still closed but a faint smile on his lips.
"Those cost extra Ensign. Dinner and a date at least!" she returned his faint smile, leaving quickly to avoid seeing his reaction but with her grin widening.
It was some hours later that Ravi returned to check on how Caj was doing, expecting to find him sleeping peacefully. She knew she had a naive streak inside her still, but she could only hope for that predicted result as the alternative might be him writing on her Sickbay walls with vast equations and time-travel theories.
Cajag was already up and getting into his uniform. Caj had moved the side table up and closer to the bed. On it were two poorly replicated medical nutritional supplement meals from the replicator a lit candle, with napkins and cutlery. "Really sorry doc" said Caj with a smile "But orders came in. I got to go out and check the planets weather satellites. But before I do, can we have a quick dinner date first?"
"I'm very happy to have that dinner date with you, Troublesome Trill!" she winked at him. "BUT.... You don't go back on duty until I complete your discharge form. Capisce?" She planted both feet firmly with an exaggerated gesture and tilted her head to give him a pretty scary version of a 'don't try me!' scowl, Cardassian eyebrows and all!
"You're really cute when you scowl doc." said Caj pulling off his uniform top and beginning to work on his trousers. "But i'm sure there was another way to get my clothes off."
"I have a strong half-exoskeleton from my Cardassian genetic heritage, so I'm no push over if I want to remove any form of covering from my patients, as you might even find out if you keep pushing your luck with me, Menace!" she sounded as if she was threatening him seriously but her large Bajoran-heritage brown eyes - whilst incompatible with the rest of her mixed features - were sparkling and her frown had lifted almost at once.
Standing in a more relaxed stance and with that sparkle in her eyes, Ravi had somehow regained the high-ground and returned Caj's volley of verbal combat.
When he had finally wrestled himself out of his duty clothes, trousers and all, under the watchful eyes of the CMO, her expression warmed a little.
"Good job" she praised him with just a hint of barely discernible irony in her tone. Assisting unasked with the folding of the last items of uniform, Ravi patted the neat pile of clothes on the bed and said very softly but with total seriousness. "Okay, so now we have that sorted out, I'll just sign off your Discharge and you can go. Would you like to get dressed? I can drop the cubicle blinds and make them opaque, if you would like some ....erm... privacy?"
It was very fortunate indeed that Ravi had been able to master the mandatory training for the 'Doctors' Impassive Face" early on in her career because she was pushed to her limits to hold back a guffaw of rising laughter at the look on the Trill officer's face when she handed him a long, sleek, black data-rod - already completed with his release from medical supervision, that she had been carrying in her med-kit when she had arrived earlier.
A smirk escaped her and she had to really struggle to squash it down again.
Caj pursed his lips together and try to stifle a laugh but even though the joke was on him, the laugh could not be supressed and Caj laughed a jovial laugh. "Ok" said Caj pulling his clothes back on. "But next time its your turn." Whilst pulling on his clothes Caj tried to multi-task and get some food down his gullet as he did. "Can i have my discharge now please?" asked Caj with over exaggerated pleasing blue eyes.
Ravi pointed to the sleek black data rod she had just passed him and joined him in some very warm and renewing laughter that made the long and difficult days they had all been through seem to begin to heal.
Their laughter was unleashed and before long they were wondering what it was they'd started laughing at, because everything seemed ridiculously funny all of a sudden. So infectious were their howls of amusement that it became an irresistible happiness that drew in those across the whole of Sickbay who heard it. Totally unaware strangers were chuckling all around, almost no-one having any idea what they were laughing at, or for, just that they needed a mood lightener and were more than glad to let it infuse the atmosphere.
As Caj managed to regain most of his clothes and seemed to be leaving, Ravi waved at him, overcome with inexplicable joy, tears rolling down her cheeks. She picked up his last shoe and took it over to him, unable to crack the concrete grin that had plastered her face. She couldn't breathe enough to speak and it didn't look as if he could either so she dropped the shoe (almost onto his foot - which just set them both off again). Through the sobs of their breathlessness, Ravi looked Caj right into his stunning baby blue eyes and, after first burying her face in his neck to calm herself, she managed to plant a kiss on his cheek.
Caj's body tensed and a tingle went up his spine when Ravi's lips touched his neck. Caj was nuzzled against Ravi and his body began to fill with warmth, but also a lot of nerves. Caj was all talk an no action when it came to his experience in relationships. But fortune favoured the bold and he moved his head gently against hers so as to be able to kiss her on the lips. They moved closer together, breath on each other's skin.......Then there was a familiar chirping noise from between them as his comm bade went off and an officers voice spoke =/\= Ensign Lagnas to shuttlebay 12. Ensign Lagnas to Shuttlebay 12 =/\= The comm badge was almost like the shattering of a mirror breaking the tension between them.
"That sounds like your cue" Ravi said, remembering who and where she was in a split moment and pulling away. She still had the welded on grin holding her face to ransom and the jovial atmosphere was intact around the room and in everyone else so she kept her lightest, happy tone in place and muttered something about how great is had turned out that he was already discharged and that she had no doubt she'd see him somewhen soon, preferably somewhere that the food was better.
One last chuckle and she began to clear up the cubicle, almost as if she might have been taking up a duster to fluff him on his way. The blush on her high cheek bones gave away the only clue that she was at all rattled by what had developed.
