Mission:
Shakedown
Location: USS Cygnus
Timeline: MD1
::ON::
Caj was a little disappointed in himself......and he was being stubborn. This was complicated emotional mix that was making him a bit grumpy at himself. As a child he had grown up on starships. Both parents being starfleet officers, he was use to the corridors of a starfleet vessel. Heck his informative teenage years had been on a galaxy class starship. A Starship not so dissimilar to the nebular class cruiser he now wandered the corridors of. For wandering he was. As he was totally lost. He had stubbornly refused to use the computer guidance map to find his science lab because he knew to himself he should be able to find what he was looking for. So Caj was really not paying attention to where he was going and as such pumped completely into another offer.
The other officer was a member of the ship's medical team, Dr. Khalest T. “Oh. Apologies, Caj. I suppose I wasn't paying attention. I am trying to locate Sick Bay, and our labs. Perhaps I should just ask the computer for directions, as this is all so new to all of us.” She also seemed a bit lost, but going without sleep and having very little food had that effect on anyone's mind.
"No Khalest!" responded Caj with over the top dramatism. "we can't let the ship win! I to cannot find my Science Lab." He looked about conspiratorially. "What would the other junior officers think if we cant find our way around our own starship. "look we are both new and we are both starfleet officers i am sure between us we can out smart a nebular class starship?"
The Klingon/Vulcan hybrid tilted her head a bit in confusion. "Outsmart? The ship is not sentient, Caj. But yes, it would be rather awkward if the Junior Officers found out we cannot even navigate this ship, no matter how new this is to all of us. But I also don't want to spend hours walking in circles."
“Hmmmmmmm” said Caj thoughtfully as he scratched his chin. “The ship is mostly one big circle anyway so logically if we methodically work the problem two smart blue collars Starfleet officers, such as ourselves, should be able to work the problem”
"I agree. But we need to figure this out, quickly. Is there not a mission briefing soon?" Something caught her attention from the corner of her eye, but when she glanced in that direction, nothing was there but the pristine walls and new carpet. Was she seeing things that were not there? She needed sleep worse than she thought. Or was it the beginning of trauma from what she had seen, directly after the storm?
"Yes good point" replied Caj looking around to get his bearings "I think i remember Ravi....." He stopped mid sentence and used the Chief Medical officers formal title "I mean I think i remember Lieutenant Commander Winters meniton that the main sick bay was somewhere on deck twelve maybe.....are you ok?" asked Caj with concern as he noticed the doctors distant look
The doctor turned her attention back to Caj. "Yes, I am fine. But I think I may be a bit sleep depraved. I will be fine. We need to find our way around, and quickly."
Caj shrugged a little “Your the doc, doc.” He clapped his hands together “right let’s get to a turbo lift and see if we can at least get to the right deck” Caj smiled
"Agreed, let's at least do that." She proceeded down the corridors, back to the lifts that had gotten her to this floor in the first place.
They bundled into the turbo lift. “Deck twelve” Caj asked the ships computer politely. As the turbo lift hummed and began the short ride to its destination Caj said conversationally “This nebular class refit is quite spectacular. It’s breathed new life into the old girl. It shouldn’t have a problem keeping up with the more contemporary starships.”
"I agree, the ship has undergone far more than a few minor repairs and a paint job. It has been completely rebuilt." She entered the lift, getting almost too close to Caj.
“It is a testament to the Captain that he was able to convince Starfleet to repair the Cygnus rather than replace her. I heard the damage was quite extensive….” Caj paused a second. He was new, ish, and had not been onboard the nebular class vessel during the warp incident that had devastated the ship and killed and wounded a lot of the crew, so he asked gently “where you onboard when it happened?” The turbo lift cane to a stop and the doors opened.
She shook her head. "No. After graduating from the Medical Academy on the Vulcan home planet, I was assigned to the Cygnus, but was told that it had suffered extensive damage and was undergoing repairs. I was then sent to Elysia, where I was introduced to Dr. Winters, and everyone else, in time. So really, I began my assignment here, on vacation." She let a faint smile cross her face.
“What a way to start a vacation as well.” Said Caj as he remembered the storm. A little cold shiver went up his spine. They now began there walk around deck twelve, which was part of the saucer section. So it was going to be a bit of a walk
She grimaced. "Yes, though the enjoyment was short lived." So much had happened, in so little time. And did they really do all they could? Yes. Everyone did what they were supposed to. Then why had so many innocent people fallen? She pushed those thoughts aside for the moment, as they walked.
“Indeed” Responded Caj thoughtfully. There was a moments silence between the two Starfleet officers as they walked the new corridors of the USS Cygnus contemplating their encounter with the storm. They certainly had a galaxy class esk feel to them but with a much more contemporary vibe.
The Doctor walked with her hands behind her back, as they traversed the corridor which led to the board room, among many other things on this floor.
Will probably all be reporting to the ships counsellor at this point. Thought Caj to himself, with all the trauma this crew was going through. As they turned around a corner you could hear sick bay before seeing it with the low hums of bio bed read outs and nurses preparing equipment. Before they entered Caj had one last questions “urmmm hey, what’s the CMO like to work for?”
"So far, we get along well. Though our relationship remains for the most part professional." She looked into the entrance of Sick Bay, to get at least a glimpse of the new technology. She would be working there for the foreseeable future.
“Right well….” said Caj slapping his hands together enthusiastically. I better get off. My science lab I think is on deck six.”
"Perhaps, but priorities. Are we not on our way to the board room, for a mission statement?" She looked back to Caj, who for a few seconds had a rather large shadowy figure looming behind him. She blinked several times and the figure disappeared. More hallucinations? She definitely needed the ship counsoler after this.
Caj pursed his lips together a little “fair enough. But there is one small thing I have to attend to first. I will meet you there”
Khalest nodded. "Alright. Then I will see you there." She turned to walk toward the door of the board room
