Caj was a Scientist. A pretty good one if he did say so himself. But he was also a Starfleet officer. He was still getting into the swing of that as a Junior grade lieutenant. As Such he needed to take regular certification tests on the firing range to be certified to carry a side arm and handle a phaser rifle if needed. So hoping to go un-notice and not trying to be a bother. Caj had booked some practice time on the range and was whole heartedly missing his targets with a phaser.

If there was one thing Morgan hated, it was having to recertify with his phaser rifle. He hated combat, but he knew the galaxy wasn't kind enough to allow him to never need to fight, and of course being Chief of the Boat, he needed to set an example, and to make sure the Non Coms were certified. It was a busy role.

As he stood in the Target range with several new crewmembers, all non coms, he made a note of their scores, and nodded.

"Good, but I expect to see better," Morgan said, looking at them as the doors opened, with someone else coming in. "I get it, you're kids, you're new here, but the galaxy is not going to give you time to grow and get better. If you went into combat today, you'd likely be coming back in body bags. I want you here, same time tomorrow, for extra training," Morgan ordered. The three Petty Officers nodded, turned, and left.

Morgan looked at the newcomer, and checked his log, seeing his time was up. "Ah, Lt. Lagnas," Morgan greeted, checking the log to see who was next in the range. "Was just finishing up some training for the new Petty Officers, sir," he said.

Caj who was still getting use to his rank, pursed his lips, smiled and nodded politely. CAj watched as the young Petty Officers Shuffled out of the target range. "I bet they could still shoot better than me chief. Its urrrmmm been a while."

"Well, if you like, I can help you with the course, and some pointers," Morgan offered. "I've been running a number of them, so you can choose which level you like," he added, handing Caj the PaDD with the levels and the difficulty settings.

Caj traced his finger along the LCARS display as he flicked through the options. Now that he thought about it, he hadn't fired a phaser on a shooting range since the Academy, his last job meaning he had missed the Federations last three major conflicts, Federation Klingon War, the Dominion War and the Second Borg Incursion. Something he always felt guilty about. He just the one of the basic courses to begin with and handed the Padd back to the chief "Thank you chief, greatly appreciated."
