Mission:
Shakedown
Location: Caj’s Quarters
Timeline: after "Yes, but....."
::ON::
Cajag had been assigned his posting aboard the USS Cygnus as a junior officer. An Ensign at the bottom of the ladder, because let’s face it many many non-commissioned ranks would not take an ensign seriously either. As such his quarter had been pre-assigned prior to his arrival as part of the Cygnus’s repairs and upgrades. Not that they were quarters as such. No they had really been more of a shared collective space with a collection of other officers. But now as a Jnr Lieutenant and as a department chief not only did he get his own quarters but they would be bigger as well and unshared.
So now it was moving day. With the Cygnus well underway and Caj getting bearings with his lab and his promotion being signed off with Starfleet Command he could officially move to quarters…..and guess who he had convinced to help him.
Ravi rolled her eyes at the vast amount of .... well.... "stuff" didn't cover it. She was too polite to call it 'detritus' because she was sure he would feel the same way about her own quarters filled to the brim with things and souvenirs and "that'll come in handy" items that never actually did what they had been accepted onto the infamous shelves and drawers for.
However, even with that understanding of the similarities, it was still an ENDLESS and heavy stream of boxes that Caj withdrew from 'storage' to install in his new quarters. Having promised to 'help', Ravi had plenty of time and sore muscles to endure before they had managed to push all of it inside.
As the doors slid shut behind them, after the last hover-trolley load had been unloaded an the empty trolley returned to the Quartermaster who had been positively gleeful to see the back of Caj's stored "effects", Ravi leaned back against the door almost looking, and certainly feeling, like she was setting up guard to defend against any other boxes trying to sneak up to the door and apply for an entry visa.
Ravi perched on top of the nearest box, intending a rest but the box creaked under her weight and she jumped off startled. She turned round to see what was happening and then had to l
Fortunately there didn't seem to be anything harmed as she must have jumped away quickly enough. The contents of the box instantly distracted her as the items inside were fascinating. It made her think of "Kevin" the Tellarite Coral Organ. At first look, strange, even odd, but on closer scrutiny they had so much unique and rare things about them that it felt like she'd opened a treasure chest. She immediately reviewed her initial thought that these were items of accumulated nik-naks. This was no detritus, this was a collection of wonders.
She looked over at Caj. "Wow!" was all she could say in pure surprise and not a small amount of admiration.
Caj grinned from ear to ear “I know right there is so much cool stuff in here…..actually now that I mention it got something here you might like…where did put it” He shuffled passed Ravi pushed her aside with swing of his hips. He then proceeded to take items out of the box, muttering to himself as he threw them over his shoulder to the floor “Klingon time crystal shard……Plans for a Temporal Transporter, Miniature Chroniton Particle Field Generator, stabilised Red Matter Globular…..Meta phasic entropy pulser…. No that’s not it, sling-shot, Memory gram from the gateway of forever, toothpaste, colouring pencils, Temporal Causality Loop de loopefier thingy ah ha! Here it is….” He pulled out another box “replica Bajoran time orb. See. Even glows when you flick the switch.”
"Ravi protested lightheartedly when Caj shoved her aside with his hip but once he started to throw objects that sounded 'irreplicatable', according to his descriptions of them, taking no heed or notice of where they were landing, she instinctively attempted to catch as may as she could, transferring them onto the nearby sofa for safety, but ending up with the last few all held precariously in her arms as she hadn't had time to put them all down fast enough before the next one was hurled through the air.
When he finally stopped throwing things, Ravi sighed with relief and let the rest that she was balancing fall on the soft surface, relieved that 'fielding' exercise was over. It was then that she looked up to see the one item he had finished with and took in his words slowly.
"Replica.. Bajoran ..Time.. Orb?" she repeated very slowly and stared at it as the glowing increased before her very eyes, just as if it were real. Her breathing became as slow as her words and her eyes widened with disbelief.
"Where in the Universe did you get that?" she breathed with wonder in her expression.
