"This isolation is killing my social mentality," Delenna sighed to the room. She looked up to actually address the room or even make it look as if talking to an audience beyond.
"Hi! I am Delenna Morak. I have two siblings, a CMO Auntie and CO Mother. I lived on the USS Enterprise G all my life. I helped my mother with her work and errands, when I was not in school or doing homework. You could say that I was serving in Starfleet from the age of 8. I actually got sponsored to join Starfleet Academy at the age of 13 because I did well in school and showed a proficiency in whatever task I was given by any of the crew and Capt. Roberts who became Admiral Roberts later on.
Now I am a Medical Officer on Deep Space Nine. I am researching the Thelusian Flu and how it effects all species and how we could make a cure without the use of the transporter. This is because some planets may not have transporters. I am looking at several things with the Thelusian Flu.
*Looking at the Thelusian Flu on it's own and with the aggressive antibodies
*Can the hyperaging be slowed down?
*Can the aggressive antibody be removed from the Thelusian Flu?
*Can a cure or vaccine be created to fight the Thelusian Flu?
I have been running this research for the last year, while I waited an answer from Starfleet and the Federation Council on my hypotheses for doing more reasearch on the Thelusian Flu. I continued with putting things into action to be more prepared.
Contacted the same people who had been doing their own research on Thelusian Flu to request permission to use their work in my research and I would send them a copy of the paper once finished and whether I could contact them if anything they had wrote needed clarifying.
I took the time to read through this information and put an action plan together and get blood and skin cell specimens from the people that have been running tests for the same reason I am.
Prepping the Lab with everything I was going to need for this research and get all the safety measures put in place too.
I went all out on this research project!
I hear you ask, why work on such a deadly contagion? Well, as I said before I want to find a cure and find more information for how it effects all species and answer so many questions that have not been answered like…..
*Does the Thelusian Flu only mutate with the aggressive antibody of the superchildren?
*Can the Thelusian Flu be cured or a vaccine created to fight it?
*How do we deal with the mutated version?
Well as you can see by where I am, I got approved to go ahead with the mission. Starfleet gave me special permission to collect specimens and anything that may be useful to learn. There were warning beacons around the station so to warn people away, it has been there since the time of the USS Lantree in 2365.
Starfleet gave me strict orders on containment and quarantine, which has meant that I have had no contact with anyone while doing this research.
I asked the CMO if he could collect me a bunch of blood and skin cells from the people on DS9, for me to use in my tests and I have found a number of things during the first bunch of tests.
TEST 1 was to see the effects of the Thelusian Flu on all species blood and skin cells. The actual Thelusian Flu itself was harmless to the skin cells but raised every species white blood count to counter the virus. The flu peaked at a week with very high white blood cell count and after that it died. The effects varied greatly depending on the species.
Now after my physical with the doctors, I go to the next stage of my work!
