865 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Outbreak
Location: Medical Lab DS9
Timeline: SD240109.21

Delenna walked into another area of the lab that she had made so she and the doctors could talk and sit down comfortably through a quarantine shield. This allowed the CMO to read Delenna's vitals too. As always so far she had a clean bill of health.

After the physicals were done. Delenna met with the CNS and Delenna enjoys these sessions because if she needs anything the CNS sees to it, but also it allowed her to get frustrations and other feelings off her mind that would impair her judgement. After the medicals are done, she goes for a shower and a quick change of clothes and the CMO and CNS go about there business.

Delenna stepped out of her personal space. "Hi again, All clear to start the next phase of tests but first let me give you a tour of this place. So you know the room over there is for testing and research. This is like the place I get my medicals done and exercise. I even have my own gym. How cool is that?

I have two replicators for food and drink and some essential sanity items. I actually don't replicate my coffee, I get a year or two supply shipped to me and perculate it myself. Wonderful.
Where I just came from is my personal space. That has my bed, sonic shower and a perculator. I don't eat in the lab.

Throughout the lab, it has the highest level quarantine shield and in-between the double layered clear perspect there is a shield there. All the doors are air tight sealed and decontamination beams. I have to decompress each walkway between the lab and the personal space that hopefully ensures that the Thelusian Flu stays lab side.

I also wear a hazmat suit but as you can see I have amended it for this work. No flimsy material to contaminate specimens and no baggy fingers that would cause me clumsiness. It has its own oxygen for when I decompress the walkways and aerate the personal space, and cooling system so I can remain in the suit and not overheat. The helmet is not big and bulky so I can see what I am doing precisely. It doesn't steam up either.

Now to begin the next tests. In these I am seeing what the specimens do when I add the aggressive antibodies of the superchildren. I am going to start with humans, betazoids and trills first as we are all similar in biology. Then I am going to look at Vulcans, romulans and remans, then andorians and tellarites. Now let's begin."

Delenna walked into the lab and started work. She added the aggressive antibodies to the specimens and woah did it have a party. The human skin cells and blood died in a matter of hours, depending on the immunity of the person and their overall health, someone could live a matter of 6hours at best. Betazoids and non-joined Trill a matter of 8-10hours and joined Trills would survive a matter of 12hours at most.

This was a scary thought and feeling for Delenna and she understood why using the transporter for Dr Pulaski was the best thing but Delenna had to think of the planets and cultures that didn't have that technology, they'd be looking at extinction. For Delenna, this boosted her determination to finding a cure or vaccine or something to help those without transporter technology but also she was going to push to make it mandatory for all Starfleet and Federation personell and civilians to have up to date DNA Codes on their medical records for such an event that their codes get rewritten.

Delenna also wondered if there was anything that she could do for the superchildren. She had left specimens of their DNA in a controlled containment within the lab, so that they couldn't contaminate the work Delenna was doing. After the tests she had done on the Tellarites, she looked at the superchildren's DNA. So far in six months there had been no change in the original superchildren's DNA but Delenna had taken blood and skin cell samples from their children and children's children and saw a reduction in the samples.

She walked into the walkway and decontaminated, then to her personal space. "It's been 40 plus years since the original Superchildren were born and the antibodies haven't even degraded even slightly, however, their children and grandchildren have reduced antibodies so if they keep procreating eventually the antibodies will not exist. From what I can tell the "children" will eventually die because their bodies are unable to fight back or they will gain antibodies naturally. I don't know just yet. I have also noticed that the children and grandchildren's antibody count reduces with each generation like they take the antibodies from their parents but are unable to create their own."

Pause

"Now I am feeling the weight of the universe on my shoulders. Will the original Superchildren be able to actually die? All the descendants eventually will but the original Superchildren can create antibodies to replace those that have died or been passed to their children"
